Capitol Latino

Politics, Culture, Reporters, Thieves

As on any Saturday in football season, I saw last night crowd footage of painted men wearing horns and carrying props. Fanaticos. American hooligans. Fools, I thought.

Later on the ESPN ticker, I saw that mi Chile was losing 2-1 to Venezuela, and for a moment returned to Santiago ’05 gripped to the action on the tube, and considered: How great would it to be there to see Chile in the World Cup? The excitement was unfathomable to me, and so I had to at least consider the possibility that I would be excited enough to paint myself, wear horns, and carry props to the game.
